Who is he? Luther Mahoney is the biggest drug dealer in Baltimore. He is
very bad. He is behind many, many drug related homicides, but he
is never caught. Mahoney is very smart. None of the detectives
are ever able to make charges stick to him and he has talent for silencing
witnesses. His influence is widespread. He is involved in a
range of illegal activities, from paying people off to killing them.
He has gotten very very rich. Luther Mahoney also runs a day-care
center. For this reason, some people might think that Luther Mahoney
is a good guy. Don't be deceived! There is no good in Luther
Mahoney. He is as close to evil as a television character can get.
Luther's Story In 1996, Lewis and Kellerman caught a series of homicides caused by
a drug war. They suspect that one of 2 drug dealers are behind it.
One is Drak Fortunado; the other is Luther Mahoney. Drak end up dead,
and Mahoney turns out to be behind the hits. Though Lewis and Kellerman
are sure of this, they are frustrated by a lack of evidence linking Mahoney
to the murders.
Lewis and Stivers (form narcotics) investigate mare drug-related homicides
and this time a witmess says Luther is behind them. The actual killer
turns up dead and Mahoney is brought in for questioning. Once again,
they cannot make a case.Lewis and Munch investigate a murder in which the
main suspect is Junior Bunk, Luther Mahoney's nephew. Junior Bunk
agrees to implicate his uncle as long as he can stay "monogamous".
Luther is arrested, but manages to get Junior Bunk to change his story.
Once again, the detectives have nocase against Luther Mahoney.
A store-owner who tries to keep drug dealers (Luther Mahoney's
drug dealers) off his property is killed. This is Kellerman's first
case after he is cleared in the bribery investigation. Mahoney is
the prime suspect in the case but it seems that he will get away with yet
another murder. Kellerman is so frustrated that he considers suicide.
Kellerman goes so far as to hold a gun to his head, but Lewis talks him
out of pulling the trigger.A man transporting a huge ammount of heroine
for the Mahoney organization dies and "Operation Get Luther" is set up.
Lewis fights with Mahoney in his (Mahoney's) home and in the process, Luther
gets a hold of Lewis's gun. Mahoney is holding the gun on Lewis when
Kellerman and Stivers enter the room. Mahoney begins to surrender,
but Kellerman shoots him dead. It is not a clean shooting, but Lewis
and Stivers both assure Kellerman that they are okay with it.
Mahoney After Luther Lewis is uncomfortable about the Mahoney shooting and decides he doesn't
want to be partners with Kellerman anymore. Lewis and his new partner
Paul Falsone (who just rotated into the unit from Auto-Theft) are
shot at with 50-caliber bullets. A woman Stivers (now working in
sex crimes) is interviewing is shot and killed with a 50-caliber bullet
and Kellerman is shot in the arm, also with a 50-caliber bullet.
It turns out that Luther's sister, Georgia Rae Mahoney, has taken over the
organization and wants to eliminate the 3 detectives involved in her brother's
death. In addition, Falsone is very curious about how the shooting
went down.
Georgia Rae meets with Kellerman and tells him that Luther had a bunch
of surveillance cameras in his house and she has the whole thing on tape.
She tells Kellerman that she is not yet sure what she wants to do with
him.
Kellerman tells Georgia Rae the he doen't care what she does with the
tape and that he's glad he killed Luther. It turns out that there never
was a tape, but since Georgia Rae now knows that Kellerman murdered Luther,
she will get her revenge. When he least expects it.
Georgia Rae sues kellerman, Stivers, Lewis, Giardello, Cox, the department
and the city for wrongful death. Lewis goes off to confront Georgia
Rae and gets suspended for hitting her.
Kellerman is in bad shape. He drinks all the time and is having
hallucinations about Luther.
Lewis starts his own "investigation" of the Mahoney gang and manages
to get the organization to start turning on itself. He secretly gives
the detectives the info to close all of the cases. Gee tells him
to stop and he is allowed back in homicide.
The judge in Georgia Rae's civil suit is dirty. Kellerman suspects
that he is on the Mahoney payroll and confronts him with a hidden tape
recorder. The gets what he is looking for and goes to the FBI.
They are already investigating Judge Gibbons and don't want Kellerman to
mess up their investigation. Judge Gibbons throws out Georgia Rae's suit.
Kellerman gloats loudly in the presence of some Mahoney gang members.
Judge Gibbons is stabbed dead. Junior Bunk is the prime suspect.
Bayliss and Pembleton get him in the box, but he will not be intimidated
by them. He is allowed to make a phone call while waiting to be transfered
to central booking (parole violation). Junior Bunk snatches a gun
out of a detective's desk and beings shooting. Three uniforms are
killed. Gharty is hit in the chest. Ballard is hit in the ankle.
Gee, Bayliss, Lewis, Pembleton and Kellerman fill Junior Bunk with a variety
of bullets. Gee declares war on the Mahoney organizaton.
Stivers tells Gee about how the Mahoney shooting happened. Georgia Rae's body
is found and Bayliss is shot. Pembleton is asked to figure out the Mahoney Shooting.
He and Falsone interview Lewis and then Kellerman when they learn the truth.
Kellerman shot Luther as he was pointing the gun towards the ground. Kellerman says
that he will "carry" this. Gee asks him to resign in order to protect Lewis
and Stivers, which he does. Pembleton resigns as well. The end
